Tokkuri

tokkuri100207

This is a typical sake bottle and is also a little old (I guess it is over 60 years old) one from my wife's parents'. I sketched this after drinking sake... the out line shows that I was drunk? Sketched on the 7th of February, 2010. #92 of the book.

Kayoi-dokkuri

tokkuri100105

This is a ceramic bottle for Japanese liquor (sake) called "Tokkuri". I don't know how old it is but I'm sure it's older than 80 years. People carried this kind of containers to a liquor shop to buy sake (not only sake but oils, soy sauces and other liquids). Traditional Japanese life is such a waste-free life. I sketched this on the 5th of January, 2010. #91 of the book.

A leather boot

boot090316

I sketched one leather boot right after buying. These boots are for both fieldwork and town walking. A lot of people in Syria told me that the boots were so nice and asked they were Italian boots or not. Unfortunately, these are American product... Well, I agree that Italian shoes/boots are pretty good. Sketched on the 16th of March, 2009. #123 of the book.

Flint

flint090106

This is a flint stone I collected in Syria. This kind of flint is used for stone tools back in Paleolithic age. Geologically, it should be called silicified tuff. Sketched on the 6th of January, 2009. #121 of the book.

Peridotite xenolith

olivine090129

I better call this olivine xenolith. Peridotite is formed in the Earth's mantle and derived from there in magmas. When olivine is gem-quality, it is called peridot (unfortunately, this is NOT a gemstone). I collected this at a volcano in Syria. Sketched on the 29th of January, 2009. #116 of the book.

Pebble

pebble090924

Now the thing I use the loupe for—a pebble. This is a pebble of Nohi rhyolite that widely occurs at Gifu prefecture, central Japan. I collected this at a river bank of the River Nagara and I sketched this on the 24th of September, 2009. #118 of the book.
