Ready to paint?

itsukihand081130

Sorry for the long silence since I last updated this blog last month. I sketched my son's hand while he was asleep together with a single oil pastel stick of Sennelier on the 30th of November, 2008. At this time, he was 10 months old and he has just became 1 year old last week.

Now, let me introduce a good article at emptyeasel.com titled "Oil Pastels 101: A Comprehensive Guide to Painting with Oil Pastel". This article about oil pastels was written by Robert Sloan, American oil pastel artist/writer. Comprehensive knowledge about this fine art medium is intelligibly explained. My painting of three green apples is shown in this article. Thank you, Robert. Thank you, editors. Thank you, visitors.

Horse skeleton

equus080408

I sketched a skeletal preparation of a horse as a study for oil painting on the 8th of April, 2008. I separately sketched the left and right parts of the specimen on the separate black papers. The oil painting work will be expanded and printed as a part of the 8 meter wide display board at the entrance hall of the university museum. The original work will be exhibited inside. The original painting and the entrance display are going to be shown at the renewal day of the Nagoya University Museum on the 30th of May, 2008.

This is a Japanese local type (Kiso) of a common horse, Equus caballus. This individual named "Dai-san Haruyama-go" was the final thoroughbred of this local type (not a Thoroughbred... :) )and lived during the years since 1952 to 1975. The specimen shows the type's physical peculiarity.
