Soapstone cat

cat060811
This cat is made of soapstone (talc?) from Kisii district, Kenya. Sometimes the stone is called Kisiistone. I don't remember when, but I bought this cat maybe three or four years ago in Kisumu. I painted this back in Japan on the 11th August, 2006.

Imboya mono, Evans. (I learned a few greetings in Kisii language when I was in Kenya. Hope my memories are not wrong...)

I didn't mean to promote the product in this sketch blog but it's interesting that you found this entry as a kind of business opportunity. Thanks for the information of your company. I didn't know there's a large producing company in Kisii soapstone carving.

All I can do in this weblog is just uploading my oil pastel sketches as you see. I've got some more soapstone carvings so I'll upload them if I sketch them in the future. Now I leave your message here then someone who is interested in the soapstone products can try to contact your company by the phone. I wish my sketch to be "realistic" and "attractive" to make someone feel like purchasing the products. :)
