My wife used to use this long before. She removed the strap and kept this for painting something with a branding iron. I sketched this on the 14th of January, 2009.
This is fabulous. I spent an hour with my oil pastels this evening, sketching apples, and got to wondering how long you typically spend on one of your OP sketches?
Hi E-J,
Thank you. It usually takes less than one hour for me to sketch single objects. I used to time while painting to quit in 60 minutes. I don't time lately but it seems it became my rule... is this long? or short?? Anyway, I think 60 minutes is right limit for me to keep sketching everyday after getting back from work.

I'm amazed. I had imagined 90mins at the very least. I find that an hour is a good length of time for a sketch as it keeps me focused, but the OPs always seem to beg for longer than my soft pastels do.
Your apples are lovely, by the way. They put mine (sketched yesterday) to shame!
E-J,
There were sketch threads in Pastel forum in WetCanvas! before the forum separated into the softies and the oilies a couple of years ago. I regularly posted my op sketches in the thread and they had a rule of painting in 60 minutes that time. That's why I started checking time.
I think it takes longer to paint in soft pastels than in oil pastels. ;)
I've looked at your apple sketch in your weblog. Oh, you are too modest. You produced the beautiful reality with your delicate colour selection.

...and sorry for the late reply.
