Maize (corn) from a farm in Mie prefecture, central Japan. Very very sweet. I got surprised to eat this maize at a farm-managed restaurant and then I have bought an ear today. Sketched this on the day I bought—the 13th of July, 2009.
Hi Yusuke. Love your OP work. Would you mind explaining your technique for the cornsilk? Did you draw the silk after the corn and leaves were drawn or did you leave bits of white paper and color around the white? The effect is just lovely.

Thanks, B.
Technique for the cornsilk is not that special. I drew the silk over the corn and leaves. Bright parts were the opaque white pigment and I partly scratched them off to make it "thin" as a cornsilk fiber.

Welcome!
Welcome to "Artist at Heart | Oil Pastel Blog"! This weblog shows oil pastel sketches by Yusuke Katsurada whatever they are new or old.
The collection book of my oil pastel works was published in March, 2010. The book is titled "humble but rich life with oil pastels". 160 works were selected from my daily sketches painted from 2006 to early 2010. Full colour images of the works are shown, and short comments/explanations were given to each work by me. You can purchase the copy on-line at blurb.com. Check at this page, too.
