I like walking. I often go for a walk in early morning. This is the view from one of my walking routes east from Tokugawayama-cho, Chikusa-ku, Nagoya. A paperboy delivers morning newspapers at the break of dawn. I took some photographs after sunrise (you know, its hard for me to take a good photo in the gray dawn...) and painted this work at my studio. Twilight before sunrise and darkness of the night sharing the same landscape, street-lamps here and there, residential area enwrapped in silence. This might be the most mysterious and sensuous period of citys day. You can see this kind of prospect from the near to the far through the middle distance when you stand at the top of the staires here. I used vertically long canvas because I wanted to express its depth. |
